OHA is seeking a Volunteer Community Outreach Coordinator

4 – 5 hours per week July – August (possibly to be extended through October)

Oakland Heritage Alliance (OHA) is a non-profit membership organization which advocates the protection, preservation, and revitalization of Oakland's architectural, historic, cultural and natural resources through publications, education, and direct action.

As part of our educational outreach, OHA provides Walking Tours of Oakland’s distinctive places, led by local historians and neighborhood experts. These tours are based in part on the research of the Oakland Cultural Heritage Survey, a project of the City of Oakland Planning Department, and the resources of the Oakland Library History Room.

The Volunteer Community Outreach Coordinator will be involved in the coordination of volunteers and a "Welcome Table" prior to each tour. Tours take place Saturdays and Sundays. This position will schedule additional walking tour volunteers, and provide a welcoming meeting place at each tour where participants can check-in and/or purchase tickets. The Volunteer Community Outreach Worker will encourage community engagement by promoting membership in Oakland Heritage Alliance.

Tours are offered on Wednesdays and Saturdays, May through October. The program also offers tours for school classes and other special groups throughout the year. The Pardee Home Museum is currently looking for volunteer docents. Potential docents may choose training to be either "back-up" docents, with less training required, or "lead" docents, with more training required on the history of the house and its occupants. The Pardee Home Museum also welcomes volunteers in other areas, such as gardening, helping with the cataloging of thousands of unique and beautiful artifacts, hosting at special events, etc. (510)444-2187.
