Camron-Stanford House: an 1876 Italianate house on Lake Merritt. 1418 Lakeshore Drive. Tours 11 a.m-4 p.m. on Wednesdays and 1-5 p.m. on Sundays. $4/$2 (free first Sunday). (510)444-1876. www.cshouse.org

Cohen-Bray House: an 1884 Stick Eastlake with original interiors. 1440 29th Street. Tours at 2 p.m. on the fourth Sunday or by appointment. $5. (510)532-0704. www.cohen-brayhouse.info

Paramount Theatre, a restored Art Deco movie palace, offers $1 tours of areas not usually open to the public. Learn the theater's history, at 10 a.m. on the first and third Saturday. 2025 Broadway. (510) 893-2300. www.paramounttheatre.com

Pardee Home Museum: an 1868 Italianate villa, home to two mayors and a California governor. Tours at noon on Fridays and Saturdays, reservations recommended. Schools and private groups may arrange a special tour. $5 adults, children 12 and under free. 672 11th Street. (510)444-2187 www.pardeehome.org

Peralta House: an 1870 Italianate Victorian house, sits on the original hacienda site of the 1820 Peralta  land grant. This building which has been described as the "heart and soul of Oakland" is is a city and state landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Preservation Park: an enclave of historic buildings, comprised of five in their original location, and eleven that were moved to the site and saved from demolition. The buildings date from 1870 to 1911. Currently a center for non-profit organizations and small businesses.  Available for meetings, performances, and festivities. 1233 Preservation Parkway, between 12th and 13th.
