This building was used as the Main Library until 1951, when the new Main library was built (and just celebrated it's 50th birthday). This building is now the African-American History Museum and Library. Located at 14th and Martin Luther King Way.

This building, along with other libraries across the U.S., were built with funds from Andrew Carnegie, founder of U.S. Steel. Oakland constructed more "Carnegie" libraries than any other city in the U.S., including San Francisco and New York.
