CROCKER HIGHLANDS HOUSE TOUR – ROMANTIC AND PICTURESQUE HOMES

Visit romantic and picturesque 1920s homes in the Oakland hills during Oakland Heritage Alliance’s self-guided Fall House Tour, Sunday, October 10th. The eight Period Revival homes, distinguished by their high quality and careful craftsmanship, show the influences of Tudor, Arts & Crafts, Colonial, and Mediterranean styles.

"One of the houses on the tour has undergone a stunning transformation from ‘haunted-house’-type dereliction to Architectural Digest," said Mary MacDonald, tour chair. "The owners have beautifully restored this large, Tudor-style home using original sconces and drapery rods found under layers of dust and debris in the basement, specially-commissioned forged iron light fixtures, and careful replastering of walls and ceilings. And the grounds have been tastefully and professionally landscaped. It’s fantastic."

Located in Crocker Highlands, above Lakeshore Avenue and bordering the City of Piedmont, the houses sit in a "residential park" setting inspired by the "garden suburbs" movement in England in the early 20th Century. Streets wind around natural contours, combining country charm with close proximity to commercial centers in Oakland and San Francisco, an original selling point that beckons to this day.

Registration Table location: Corner of Longridge and Lakeshore in front of the FastPrint store. Please come to the table to register for the start of the tour.

Corporate sponsor for the tour is The Grubb Co. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 on the day of tour, and $25 for OHA members. Send a self-addressed, stamped envelope by October 4 to OHA at 446 17th Street, Oakland, CA 94612.
