Erika Mailman, a local writer and former Board Member of OHA,
will be working with Arcadia Publishing to create a photographic book entitled,
"The Oakland Hills." To that end, she would like you to visit your attics or
cellars and look through the family photo albums to see if there are any images
you would be willing to see published in this book.
Here are a few guidelines:
-
Only send COPIES of photos - do not send originals!
Erika nor Arcadia do not want to take responsibility for the loss or damage of
your family's photographic history.
-
Include a self-addressed stamped envelope for the
photograph's return. Unfortunately, there can be no guarantee of a proper
return unless the SASE is
included.
-
Photographs that show recognizable neighborhoods of Oakland,
with people in them, are best.
-
Photographs should be from the time period of 1960s or
earlier. Please include a brief description of what is depicted in the image,
including any names of individuals, if possible.
-
Make sure to include your phone number. Please identify which
neighborhood your photograph shows. The neighborhoods covered in this book
are: Montclair, Glenview, Oakmore, Trestle Glen, Redwood Heights, Millsmont,
Claremont, Laurel, Dimond, Rockridge, Leona Heights, Oak Knoll, Sheffield
Village, and Piedmont Pines.
Please send your material as soon as possible (deadline is May,
so this book will be in print very soon!) to:
Erika Mailman P.O. Box 2791 Oakland, CA 94602.
Thank you!
